CHARACTER APPEARANCE

Caroline is a young woman, forever stuck at the age of seventeen. She has blonde hair that comes down just past her shoulders and soft blue eyes. She also has two tattoos currently, one star on her right foot and a bird on the inside of her left wrist. She stands at about 5’8”, and has a slimmer body physique. She takes care of her looks and styles her hair while typically wearing t-shirts/tank-tops, a jacket, skinny jeans, and boots. When she shows her more vampire side, the veins around her eyes darken and become pronounced. Her eyes look nearly bloodshot, and she can extend her fangs to bare them or use them. She can show this appearance at will, but blood close to her can sometimes trigger it unintentionally.

Candice Accola plays Caroline Forbes in the Vampire Diaries tv series.

Canon Setting:
The Vampire Diaries universe takes place in mostly normal Earth, season 3 taking place in the later half of 2010. Every major event progressed normally, and technology is the same as it would be for general Earth of 2010. The differences, instead, are found in the underside of society. Supernatural creatures of all kinds exist in this world, and Mystic Falls, Virginia almost seems like a breeding ground for the supernatural.

Before the arrival of the Salvatore brothers in 2009, Mystic Falls seemed, for the most part, supernatural free. The Bennett line of witches still resided in the town, however, and the Lockwood family housed the dormant werewolf gene that had remained untriggered until that year. And, of course, there was the doppelganger, Elena Gilbert. Vampires, however, were not common in Mystic Falls. And while the Salvatore brothers, and the occasional stray, did make their way to the town over the centuries, vampires hadn't gathered en masse in the town since 1864. After the arrival of the Salvatore brothers and their involvement with Elena, everything supernatural seemed to come to light and even intensify. After 2009, Mystic Falls became a hotspot for supernatural activity with vampires, werewolves, witches, eventually hybrids, and anything else that existed finding it's way to the town.

While vampires were not so rampant in Mystic Falls, the Council still continued to exist throughout history in Mystic Falls. Formed shortly after the vampire infestation of 1864, the council consists of the various founding families in Mystic Falls. Founding families are normal human beings who dedicate themselves to protecting Mystic Falls from vampires. They know about the existence of vampires, but often seem almost oblivious to other supernatural beings. They focus primarily on vampires, though, and have means of killing any that prey on those in, or around, Mystic Falls. Often times, large town gatherings are just cover ups for Council meetings to allow them to congregate and talk behind closed doors without drawing attention to themselves. The rest of Mystic Falls ( for the most part) remains oblivious to the existence of supernatural beings.

Witches are one of the supernatural beings already living in Mystic Falls at the start of the series. More specifically, the Bennett family of witches including Bonnie Bennett- best friend of Caroline and Elena. Witches are normal humans in form and physical weaknesses, but they possess the ability to harness magic and wield it. Witches have the abilities to bring the dead back to life, break down barriers, and dessicate vampires. They can channel each other to become stronger, or even channel their dead if they go to the place where a witch died a violent death. Witches are more natural beings than any of the others, and their magic brings them closer to nature. This is because witches’ purposes are to protect the balance of nature. This causes their magic to always have a cost. That cost becomes more significant with magic that is darker or tends to go against the natural balance (ie. bringing someone back from the dead made them able to see and communicate with the dead and be haunted by some of them and eventually led to Bonnie losing the support of dead witches). Included in the witches category is also a subset of witches known as the Travelers. These are not introduced to the show until Season 5, but are known to practice magic that relies on possession and other Travelers for strength.

Werewolves are another of the supernatural beings living in Mystic Falls at the start of the series. Werewolves regard themselves as ‘cursed’ with the gene for lycanthropy. The werewolf gene lies dormant in wolves, and is only triggered when the carrier kills someone. This murder can be intentional or accidental, but both end in the werewolf curse taking effect. Werewolves are strong and fast, only bested by vampires and only barely so. Like vampires, however, their emotions seem to be more heightened than a normal human being’s and they tend towards more aggressive behaviors. They are slaves to the full moon, and every full moon they undergo a painful transformation that breaks every bone in their body to turn them into a wolf forcefully. Werewolves are able to change at any other point by choice, but are unable to resist the full moon. They are not allergic to silver, but wolfsbane does hurt them greatly. They can be killed the same ways a human might be, though. Despite their weaknesses, werewolves carry venom in their teeth that is lethal to a vampire. Even a scrape from the teeth of a werewolf can kill a vampire in a long, drawn out, and excruciating manner. The Lockwoods, one of the founding families of the town, carry the werewolf gene in their bloodline. At Caroline’s current canon point, Tyler Lockwood is a triggered werewolf and is close to Caroline ( the full extent of their relationship will be discussed in more detail later in this app ). Tyler’s uncle was also triggered, but is deceased at this point. Tyler’s father was never triggered, though he did carry the gene.

A doppelganger was also residing in Mystic Falls at the start of series, unknown to her. Elena Gilbert is one of a long line of doppelgangers that traces back to the first immortals of the Vampire Diaries universe. Silas and Amara were true loves who deceived the ancient witch Qetsiyah to steal her immortality spell. This was accomplished by Silas promising to marry Qetsiyah and take the spell with her, but later stole it and gave it to himself and Amara. The two became immortal, going against nature’s natural order of life and death. To balance this, nature created doppelgangers of the two to be born throughout history and die in place of them. Doppelgangers are born human by nature, and have no special abilities of their own. Their blood is particularly powerful for spells, and the Petrova doppelganger blood ( the common name for the bloodline of Amara’s doppelgangers due to Katerina Petrova being one of the most known doppelgangers previously ) was used for the creation of vampires. However, becoming a vampire nullifies the magical properties of the doppelganger’s blood.

While these supernatural beings were all living in Mystic Falls at before the vampires arrived, many of them were not aware of themselves or other supernaturals that might exist. Most of them lived normally, until 2009 when the Salvatores returned for the most recent doppelganger, Elena.

Vampires were the first to make themselves prominent in Mystic Falls, and remain the most common supernatural creatures in the town. While not the first immortals of the world, they were the first vampires created from a spell to grant immortality to the Original family ( Niklaus, Rebekah, Kol, Finn, and Elijah ) used by their mother. All vampires can trace their lineage back to the Originals, and the death of an Original will end the lives of all vampires who can be traced back to that Original. Vampires are naturally strong, fast, and have keen senses. However, for every strength a vampire was given from the spell, a weakness was created to counter it. They're not allergic to garlic or religious artifacts of any sort, but do burn in the sun and are weak to vervain and magic and sunlight. Nature’s way of balancing the unnatural immortality vampires were given ( strengths and weaknesses are further expanded on in powers section of the app ). The process of creating a vampire involves feeding someone the blood of a vampire, that someone dying while vampire blood is in their system, and then that someone drinking the blood of a human after coming back to life as a vampire. Those who have been turned but have not yet drank the blood of a human are referred to as being ‘in transition,’ and if a vampire does not drink blood while in transition they will die after twenty-four hours.

Hybrids are later introduced after the discovery that one of the Original vampires, Klaus Mikaelson, was born with the werewolf gene that was suppressed by his mother after it was triggered from his first kill as a vampire. To suppress the werewolf gene, his mother used very specific items and the blood of a doppelganger to bind it. Nearly 1000 years later, Klaus performed the ritual that enabled him to release his werewolf side and effectively became the first vampire/werewolf hybrid. With the blood of the doppelganger, Klaus is able to create more hybrids by turning werewolves to vampires. If a hybrid does not drink the blood of the doppelganger while in transition, they will die. Human blood does not allow the transition to be complete, another side effect of the binding spell. Hybrids tend to have a sire bond with their sire ( who has thus far been Klaus ). The sire bond stems from intense feelings of gratitude from the hybrids to their sires. Being a hybrid means that werewolves are no longer slaves to the full moon. They gain the ability to turn at will, which ceases the painful transformations forced on them every full moon. The end of their suffering leaves them grateful to their sire that in turn creates the sire bond. A sire bond makes the hybrid want to do anything to please their sire, even at the cost of their life or the lives of those they love. A sire bond can be broken by ending the feelings that create the bond in the first place. For hybrids, this is done by making themselves unafraid of their transformation so that there is no need to be grateful. Tyler Lockwood is the first successful werewolf turned hybrid, and at Caroline’s point in canon has left Mystic Falls to try to break the sire bond ( he plans to do so by transforming so many times until he no longer fears it and has no need to be grateful anymore ).

All of these beings tend to be drawn to Mystic Falls for some reason or another, making Mystic Falls a known hotspot of supernatural activity in that community. More often than not, these beings are at war with each other. The Council was once a major threat to the vampires, but currently Klaus stands as that threat with everyone’s goals being to kill him. So long as Klaus lives, he will continue to appear in their lives whenever he pleases for whatever he pleases. And his family, while often at war with him themselves, generally stands by his side in the end. The Originals are the greatest threats to the town and the vampires as they stand, but also the only way vampires can survive.

If any of these beings, however, should die, there’s always the chance they are not entirely gone from the world. The Other Side is where the supernatural tend to end up after they’ve died. Not all of them do turn up there, though. Just as many get to cross on as there are those who are stuck. The Other Side is like a purgatory for the supernatural, with a Veil existing between the living and the dead. The dead are still in the world, but they cannot talk to or interact with anyone or anything. Exceptions do exist, such as with the boy who was brought back to life or when magic mistakenly weakened the veil. For the most part, though, someone could be stuck on the Other Side for centuries and be alone for all that time.

At Caroline’s current canon point, all of the above are known. Caroline’s family is a part of the Council, and both of her parents know what she is and have accepted her with time. Tyler Lockwood’s mother runs the Council, and also knows about Tyler and the Originals as well. Together, both mothers protect those they love where they can and work with the others where necessary to defend the town. This has made them stray from the original views of the Council, to kill all vampires ( and later extended to any supernatural threat such as werewolves and hybrids ) The Original family still lives in Mystic Falls, some of them wanting to just live in peace while Klaus wishes to remain close to ‘his’ doppelganger. Klaus has continued to make hybrids, who pose a threat to the community due to their obedience to Klaus. Caroline and her friends have found a way to still kill the Originals through white oak stakes from the original white oak tree’s descendant tree, the original tree being part of the spell that created the Originals and thus a means to their end. They have only just succeeded in killing Finn, and discovering the fact that killing an original means killing all vampires tied to that Original. This leaves everyone with the question of which Original sired their bloodline, hoping that it’s not Klaus so they can still kill him and eliminate the biggest threat. Unfortunately, even if the Salvatores and Caroline are spared, Tyler Lockwood is known for a fact to have been sired by Klaus. This leaves the group feeling that, yet again, Klaus gets to remain untouchable.

Character History:
| CAROLINE FORBES WIKIA
| VAMPIRE DIARIES EPISODE SUMMARIES ( aka more than you ever wanted to know about the vampire diaries )

Character Personality:
CAROLINE: Here lies Caroline Forbes--
ELENA: --Cheerleader, Miss Mystic Falls, third grade hopscotch champion...
BONNIE: ...friend, daughter, overachiever...
MATT: ...Mean girl, sometimes, no offense.
CAROLINE: Ah, none taken.
ELENA: She was 17, and she had a really good life. So rest in peace, so that she can move forward. That's what you really need. What we all really need. [beat] Amen, or cheers or whatever.

As a human, Caroline was constantly seeking validation of herself in others. This showed strongest in her drive for popularity, which could occasionally put her at odds with one of her best friends, Elena Gilbert.

Caroline’s home life wasn’t the greatest. It was far from the worst, but at a young age Caroline’s father divorced her mother after revealing that he was gay. Her father moved away to be with his new partner and his partner’s daughter, and Caroline was left with her mother. Her mother was always a good person, but the relationship between the two was strained.Liz Forbes could often be critical of her daughter and was rarely there for things Caroline considered to be important. The combination of her father leaving and her mother’s obsession with work left Caroline feeling unfulfilled in her home life. forcing her to seek validation from others.

Fast-forward a few years and Caroline is a young woman in high school with a bright future. She’s the head of almost every committee at school and forms projects to help better the town, usually running them on her own. Caroline is driven and ambitious, and her tendencies towards control freak behaviors make her excellent at organization. Her community service and winning personality earned her the title of Miss Mystic Falls two years in a row. On paper, Caroline is the perfect girl, which leaves her wondering why everyone always loves Elena and not her. Elena is Caroline’s best friend, but also rival for popularity with the other girl not even realizing it. Mostly, Caroline is envious of the way that Elena is effortlessly cool and interesting and brings people to her without even having to try. Caroline once remarks that she tries so hard and no one ever looks at her like that or talks to her like that, and also states that she wants to be deep like Elena. ‘Like, the abyss deep’ according to her. Caroline is constantly referred to as annoying and even a ‘bitch’ at times due to her controlling behaviors. She’s not unaware of these comments, and typically responds by overcompensating only to exacerbate the problems.

It’s never that easy for Caroline. She talks too much, constantly filling voids of silence with words. And she tries too hard to make people like her. This gets especially annoying when her trying becomes meddlesome. Usually it results in Caroline being too judgey or critical or controlling of others in efforts to ‘help’ them, pushing people further away from her. Despite her annoying, try-hard tendencies, Caroline is a compassionate person. She only tries so hard because she cares so much for the people in her life. She just wants to see her feelings reciprocated. This is how she falls into the trap of seeking validation of herself in how others see her.

This also made Caroline weak. The constant pressure to be perfect, especially on top of failing to be liked despite achieving Caroline’s definition of ‘perfection,’ can make Caroline high-strung and easily anxious. Not to mention the insecurities she experiences at not being liked. These things tend to leave Caroline in a more vulnerable state, especially when they call come crashing down together. They also made her easy prey for Damon, who only had to smile at her during a moment of vulnerability and was able to get her back to his room. People in her world tended to single her out as the weaker one of her pack, and would often target her for abuse or manipulation.

CAROLINE: So you're saying now I'm an insecure, neurotic control freak... on crack?

Then Caroline becomes a vampire. Vampires suffer from having everything heightened. While they gain heightened senses, strength, agility, etc., they also gain heightened emotions. All the things that Caroline typically feels get amplified to an extreme degree. At first, Caroline seems to have a ( loose ) grip of herself and her newfound vampirism. She does what she always does best, she buries how she really feels and covers it all with a mask of control. She denies anything is wrong, and tries to progress as normal. She even feels slightly empowered by her new strength and gift of compulsion ( the perfect tool for a control-freak ). It isn’t until Caroline loses that control that she realizes what it really means to be a vampire. She feeds uncontrollably on a human, draining him until he dies. She never wanted to kill him, and tried not to, but she did and feels immediate remorse for the act. Caroline loses control of her heightened emotions in this instance, her grief and upset overwhelming her to massive degrees. Eventually, Stefan manages to talk her back down from that edge. With this experience in mind, Caroline learns what it really means to be a vampire and what she never wants to experience again.

Where in humanity Caroline’s compassion led to insecurities in herself and a need to be accepted, her compassion becomes one of her greatest attributes as a vampire. Her compassion for others is what gives her the drive to learn control over herself. The need to be accepted becomes trivial when compared to the potential that she might kill someone she loves, and protecting those she cares for ( from both herself and the rest of the supernatural world ) becomes top priority. This shows most when Caroline puts on a dramatic show of being jealous of a girl talking to her then-boyfriend, Matt Donovan, in order to force him to break up with her. She knows that if she does it, it won’t end easily. But if he does it, it’s a cleaner break with him not being as hung up on her. She manipulates him into this, though, because she stops caring about whether someone loves her and cares more for the fact that she loves him and is no longer safe for him.

Being a control freak didn’t magically go away as a vampire. Instead, Caroline channeled her controlling tendencies into controlling herself over all things. She’s seen what truly happens when she loses control, and if anyone can learn to control themselves as a vampire it’s one whose control-freak behaviors were amplified in death. Caroline takes what was a negative about herself and turns it into a positive. With the help of Stefan Salvatore, controlled-vampire extraordinaire, Caroline learns how to be a better vampire so she doesn’t repeat the past. Part of that past is dealing with the fact that as a vampire her new natural state of being involves constant thoughts about blood and the desire to murder people. She refers to this as ‘murder urges’, and has found that drinking and eating help fight the murder urges. And Caroline will eat everything in sight if she can. While this doesn’t make the murder urges go away, Caroline has learned to control them and live with them. She can’t change that she’s a predator now, but she can choose what kind of predator she will be.

Caroline finds empowerment in her vampirism. Where once she was weakened by insecurities, no longer does she feel weak. She is strong and fast. She is a predator. No longer needing to find validation of herself in others, Caroline learns to respect herself. She remembers what Damon did to her as a human ( feeding on her, compelling her, verbally abusing her, etc. ) and doesn’t allow herself to become the kind of girl that will let herself be pushed around like that. Even when Katherine still bullies her as a vampire, Caroline eventually finds the drive to help try to take Katherine out so that she’s no longer a slave to Katherine’s manipulations. And finally, when she’s tortured by a pack of werewolves for hours on end, Caroline vows that what happened that night will never happen to her again. She’s no longer crippled by her insecurities, but instead is strengthened as a person by her new convictions.

Caroline grows as a person from this experience and gains her own sense of independence. She doesn’t need the validation of others anymore, she feels comfortable in her own skin. When her mother sees who Caroline has become as a vampire and learns who she really is, she’s proud of Caroline.Yet caroline still erases her mother’s memories for the safety of her friends and sacrifices the bond she would have killed to have with her mother as a human. And when her father tries to torture the vampirism out of her, she tells him this is who she is and that she’ll be okay, despite his words to the contrary. She loves these people very much, but she’s no longer defined by them.

ELENA: She’s determined but sweet, eternal optimist, never forgets a birthday. What else?
STEFAN: Never gives up on her friends.
ELENA: Yes. Right. She’s completely loyal.
LIAM: This is good build her up. I’m sure she’ll live up to these ridiculously high expectations.
ELENA: That’s another one. Great at surpassing expectations.
LIAM: So she’s perfect.
ELENA: Totally.
STEFAN: Pretty much

Caroline could never stop caring for others, though. The people she loves are the most important people in her life, and she’ll even defend those she doesn’t know so long as it doesn’t endanger those close to her. It’s why she regrets killing a human stranger so much, because even his life was important to her. Her parents will always be the most significant people to her, though. When Liz attempts to kill Damon and Damon threatens to kill her back, Caroline stands with her mother. When Bill Forbes starts to target Damon, Caroline attacks and fights Damon off. She even uses her anger to beat Damon and save her father from him, despite being the younger and weaker vampire. When her father dies, Caroline still loves him more than anything despite what he did to her. Where Caroline was made weak by her love of people and desire to be loved in return in humanity, she is made strong by her love of them as a vampire.

It’s not only her family, though. Caroline cares deeply for her childhood friends, Bonnie Bennett, Elena Gilbert, and Matt Donovan. They’re all people she would do anything for, and has done anything for at one point. Katherine was only able to get to Caroline through threatening Matt. And Caroline does what she can to help Bonnie and Elena defeat their enemies so Elena can live in peace and be happy. All she wants is to see her friends find their happiness.

The Salvatore brothers are new friends, of sorts. Stefan becomes one of Caroline’s closest friends. Damon wanted to have the newly turned Caroline killed, but Stefan fought for her right to live. He took her under his wing and taught her what it was like to be a vampire and how to deal with it all. He told her all she needed to know about herself as a vampire. He became a new friend and ally, and she owes her life to him for all that he did for her. While not her current canon point, Caroline eventually develops feelings for Stefan later on in the series. At her current point, though, she is just grateful to him for all he’s done for her and a devoted friend of his. In contrast to that, Caroline typically can’t stand Damon. Damon abused her as a human, and has shown himself to be remorseless and a killer. Caroline doesn’t have many good things to say about Damon, and even fights for Stefan/Elena over Damon/Elena. However, she tolerates his presence because of her friends care for him, and would never let him be hurt. He’s a friend in a sense, but just one she doesn’t like much.

Then there’s Tyler Lockwood. Tyler is another friend from Caroline’s childhood, who eventually becomes her boyfriend. Their friendship was an odd one before, the two never seeming to like each other before his werewolf curse was triggered. They never hated each other, and Tyler even spoke once about how annoying Caroline was but you had to admit she had a big heart. So even though their friendship wasn’t perfect, they’ve known each other all their lives. After his curse was triggered, though, Caroline became closer to him to help him. Caroline remembered how hard her change was for her alone and knew that Tyler had no one else due to his uncle being gone and the others not revealing themselves to him. She helped him through his change, and once he discovered she was a vampire the two began to bond over their similarities and struggles. Caroline sat through the night with him on his first transformation, only leaving the room and standing outside the door when he started to attack her as his nature took over. Tyler later learned that a werewolf bite was poisonous to vampires and didn’t understand why Caroline risked her life for him. But she cared about him and didn’t want him to experience the change alone. Eventually, these feelings led to a relationship between the two. The relationship between them was never easy, though. There was Tyler’s best friend and Caroline’s ex-boyfriend Matt, who made them uncomfortable. Then there was the fact that Caroline hid the other vampires from him and what really happened to his uncle. There was the wolf pack that tortured her, and Tyler leaving her to die at their hands. There was always something in their way, causing strain. But somehow, eventually, they got past all that and the pair fell in love and were pretty unbreakable.

Until Klaus. When Tyler was turned into a hybrid, he became sire bonded to Klaus. He did everything Klaus wanted out of a desire to please him, and eventually it became dangerous. Tyler almost got Elena’s brother killed by setting him up to be run over by another hybrid at Klaus’ command. Caroline broke up with Tyler when it became apparent that the sire bond was coming between them and endangering her friends, but was unable to stop loving Tyler. She loved him so much that she was weak to resist when he called her on her birthday and went to see him, only to have him bite her with his werewolf teeth at Klaus’ order. Tyler was appalled that he did it, only then realizing the full extent of Klaus’ control over him, and Caroline was nearly killed by his bite. She was only spared her death at Klaus’ behest, as he saved her with his own blood. Tyler realized what a danger he really was. He once believed that Caroline was the one person he wouldn’t hurt, but realized that he was wrong and that the bond did control him. Caroline, relieved to see him seeing the bad in the bond, again tried to help Tyler. Caroline’s father came to town to teach Tyler how to will his own mind into doing what needed to be done to break the bond, and after her father’s death Tyler left to try to complete the task. Caroline and Tyler are left up in the air, with her still in love with him but the two on rocky terms until he returns with the bond ( hopefully ) broken.

This brings things to Klaus as well. Caroline has a deep-seated hatred for the man after what he’s done to Elena and her friends and Tyler. However, Klaus seems to be in love with Caroline. He talks to her about the life she could have when he saves her on her birthday, he gives her gifts and invites her to the ball as his guest, and he draws a picture of her and a horse after he told her how much horses meant to him. He is always trying to appeal to Caroline with a more real side of himself. And as much as she hates to admit it, she sometimes falls for it. She sees past all his other games, though, and hates when he plays them on her. It’s only when he’s real that she can get a glimpse of the humanity in him and could maybe even like that in him. If he wasn’t always ruining it later.

BILL: Thank you. For coming to my rescue.
CAROLINE: You're welcome.
BILL: Bye, Caroline.
CAROLINE: Daddy. I'm going to be okay.
BILL: You're a vampire, sweetheart. I don't think you'll ever be okay again.

While growing as a person, that doesn’t make Caroline perfect in any way. Elena calls Caroline’s optimism “delusional positivity” once, and she’s not far off. Part of Caroline’s control tendencies also means not letting herself fall due to hard feelings. Caroline will suppress things that hurt and deny them to her grave. She prefers to work over them and push past them, and can sometimes be in outright denial of bad things in order to cope. She once proclaims that if she stops to think she will cry and if she cries she will never be able to stop again, which isn’t far from the truth. Caroline tries to keep all that back and to keep on going, but sometimes her delusions can be too much for others or too bad for herself. Such as her positivity that she can trust others at times, which nearly gets her killed when her trust in Tyler results in him biting her for Klaus.

That’s not to say Caroline never cries, though. Some things hit too hard that she just has to cry in the moment they happen. The death of her father being one of those things. She lets herself feel initial emotions typically or ones that have to be felt, crying if she needs to to be able to get over them. It’s the after that she doesn’t let herself feel. She can’t dwell too long, but she’s been known to not shy away from crying either.

Caroline still has a tendency to be her bright, bubbly, cheerleader self, though. Which generally can get downright annoying. Caroline makes no apologies for it, but she also doesn’t shy from the fact anymore. Caroline owns her shortcomings, even joking once that she talks a lot but that doesn’t mean she always knows what she’s talking about. She no longer shies from the bad in her, but tries to grow instead. And if she can’t grow from it, she turns it into a positive.

Caroline is a stronger person as a vampire than she ever was as a human. She’s a strong, self-confident woman who doesn’t allow herself to be taken in by those who would use or manipulate her. She holds fast to her beliefs and makes no apologies for herself. She loves her friends fiercely and would die to defend them. She’s optimistic, sometimes too optimistic, but she’s always willing to share her optimism with others. She’s bright and cheery and downright annoying at times, but she does it all with a big heart that makes it impossible to resist at times. She’s a neurotic control-freak vampire, and she’s not afraid to own it.

Character Powers & Skills:
VAMPIRE ⇢ Caroline Forbes is a vampire. Vampires originate from the Original vampires, whose bloodline is what created all vampires that live today. If someone from the Original family dies, everyone sired from their bloodline dies as well. Killing the Original family effectively kills the entire vampire race. The Original family was human in the 10th century, but when one of their brothers died their parents found a way to turn them into immortal vampires. Their mother, a powerful witch named Esther, performed the ritual by feeding blood to her children and using the White Oak tree to give them immortality.

As a vampire, Caroline has many strengths:

ENHANCED ABILITIES : Super strength, speed, and senses. Vampires are strong at birth, and the older a vampire is the stronger they are. Vampires are more agile and move, jump, and flex more easily. Caroline’s senses are also heightened to where she has the ability to see farther, clearer in the dark, hear better, smell better, and any other such thing. Typically, these senses are not activated all at once, as that might get overwhelming. Caroline utilizes these senses by focusing in on what she wants to hear, see, etc.

HEALING/DURABILITY : Vampires are able to survive nearly any attack on them. They will heal from any injury, so long as nothing is obstructing the wound. They can even have their necks snapped and ‘die’ and still heal themselves and revive again. They are able to withstand more pain and trauma as well. They do feel it, though, and have to bear the pain no matter how much they can survive it/heal it.

CONTROL : Vampires have heightened emotions at the time of their change. To cope with the feelings of intense guilt, sadness, depression, etc., vampires are able to ‘turn off/turn on’ their ‘humanity switch,’ as they often call it. This numbs those emotions and allows vampires to act without remorse. Rose suggests, however, that older vampires don’t have that switch anymore. After awhile it all just becomes as it is meant to be. At this time, Caroline has not and has never turned her humanity off.

DREAM MANIPULATION : All vampires have the abilities to affect the dreams of people sleeping, manipulating them the way that they want to. This can be used for better or worse, and is able to be detected if the person affected pays enough attention.

COMPULSION : All vampires have the ability to compel people by looking into their eyes and making them do what they want, usually by voice command. This can be used to dictate a command or even change someone’s thinking patterns/erase memories/etc. If a compelled person is turned, though, everything they were compelled to do returns to them. So if they were compelled to forget, they will remember everything after turning. However, it is shown that a human with great control over their minds can resist compulsion. It takes great effort, though. Bill Forbes trained for decades to be able to resist compulsion.

IMMORTALITY : Vampires cease aging at the time of their turn. They can live forever, and won’t die of natural causes. Only outside forces can kill a vampire. Vampires are immune to sicknesses, as well. They are only affected by poisons generated from one of their weaknesses.

HEALING PROPERTIES : These properties are found in the blood of vampires. Vampire blood can heal any injury that it could heal in a vampire. It does create the risk of the human potentially dying while vampire blood is in their system, though.

Vampires are not without weaknesses, however:

FIRE/SUNLIGHT : Sunlight and fire are deadly to a vampire. They can stand in the sunlight for a short time, but it burns and is extremely painful to do so. And standing outside in sunlight only accelerates the burning until the person bursts into flames and burns to death. The only way to go out in the sun without pain is to wear something with lapis lazuli that is spelled by a witch to allow that wearer into the sunlight. Caroline has a ring spelled by Bonnie Bennett.

WHITE OAK ASH DAGGER : While potentially not dangerous to vampires ( unless through the heart ), any vampire that uses the white oak ash dagger on an Original will die. The dagger can only be wielded by a human, according to rumors.

VERVAIN : The flowers were found at the base of the white oak tree that gave the Original family immortality. Touching the flower burns anyon. A human on vervain is dangerous to a vampire. Their blood will taste of vervain and poison a vampire. They also cannot be compelled so long as they have vervain on them or in their system.

STAKES : Wooden stakes are a sure way to kill a vampire. A wooden stake in the heart is immediate death. Wooden stakes through any part can immobilize a vampire or greatly injure or both. At one point, Caroline is kept pinned to her desk with two wood pencils in her hands. Nothing holds her down, but the pencils through her hands keep her from being able to lift her hands or remove them herself. Wooden bullets are dangerous, but if they don’t hit the heart they only hurt severely.

INVITATION : Homes that are owned by a person in any way cannot be entered without invitation. Once allowed in, you cannot uninvite a vampire. Homes with only vampires living in them and no human owner can be entered freely. Being inside a home where they are not invited is disorienting, crushing, painful, and smothering.

MAGIC : Magic can weaken a vampire. Witches are often shown to use aneurysms to bring down a vampire, as it causes great pain while they constantly try to heal from the injury. Other magic is just as dangerous, it all depends on how the witch uses their magic.

DESSICATION : Vampires who go days without blood will dry out and desiccate. Going a week leaves them fully desiccated. Witches are also able to perform a spell that does this instantly.

WEREWOLF VENOM : The myth about werewolf bites is true, and even a scratch from the teeth of a werewolf can kill a vampire.

SKILLS ⇢ Caroline has a number of skills outside of vampirism. The strongest of these being her control-freak tendencies, which make her able to handle herself well in difficult situations and pull through almost anything and make her a great organizer ( she’s organized school dances, school carnivals, and the town’s clean up program all on her own before ). She does not have any official training, but she can do some hand-to-hand combat. It mostly seems to be a form of street fighting that relies on brute strength rather than skill, but she is shown to be able to stand up to tomb vampires and hold her own in a fight. Caroline is also a good singer And, while not a skill, Caroline is highly compassionate towards others, especially her friends.

Third Person POV:
Tonight was another hit that Caroline wasn’t sure she wanted to deal with.

Caroline had learned tonight that Alaric had been the one to kill her father. Alaric, who was like family to Elena and thus like family to Caroline. It had been easier to take than she had expected. There was an odd sense of closure in knowing who had been the one to kill her father finally, even if it was strange who it had come from. But if anyone could understand what it was like to kill someone while not in control of yourself, it was Caroline.

It was just hard to think about, even if she was okay with it. No girl wanted to deal with the death of a parent at eighteen, especially the way he died. It made her think about how he might still be alive if she wasn’t a vampire and tied up in all of this.

That was always a dark road to go down, but as Caroline walked home in the late night it was a better mental road than the other one.

Which came unbidden to her mind once she considered it. Caroline sighed as she crossed the street, pulling her coat around her more for comfort than to protect from the cold. She pressed her hands into the pockets and jumped up onto the curb, boots thudding against the pavement.

Tyler was where her thoughts were now, though. Learning that any vampire tied to an Original who dies will die as well was troubling for the potential risk to herself, but devastating with the known risk to Tyler. Killing Klaus would guarantee killing Tyler. And Caroline knew the others might be willing to make that sacrifice if they could prove the rest of them would live. Especially Damon. The thought almost made her bare her fangs at nothing that was there. She wouldn’t let Tyler be sacrificed for this. She couldn’t let that happen to him. She couldn’t lose anyone else, especially not him. Not like this.

“Hey.”

The night was so quiet that it surprised Caroline to hear someone speak up behind her so suddenly. All she had heard was the soft thuds of her own boots before he’d appeared. She turned sharply, nearly prepared to attack the person. It was only a stranger, though. A little weird to see a stranger at this time of night, but she didn’t have to always be so paranoid.

“Hey,” she smiled as she stepped off the curb back towards the stranger. “Need something?” She asked.

The man before her smiled, almost sheepishly. He looked to the ground and took a slow step forward. “Actually, I do. I was hoping you might come sign up with the Cosmic Demolition Crew. All you have to do is say yes.” He looked back at her across the road as Caroline paused in her steps.

The what?

Caroline’s smile faltered, fading into confusion. “Join what?” She asked. “I’m sorry, I don’t think I understood.” A pause. Then a sigh. “Have you been drinking?” She asked, as if that answered everything.

Suddenly the hybrid was across the street, bearing sharp teeth and yellow eyes as he pinned Caroline against the wall with his forearm against her throat. Caroline let her own fangs show, snarling in his face as she put a hand to his forehead to try to hold back the lethal teeth. “Get… off!” She groaned, snarling at him as she tried to break free. The man held her still.

“Let’s try that again. Will you join the Cosmic Demolition Crew?”

“I don’t know what you’re talking about! Is this some sick game Klaus is playing,” She snapped. “You can go back to him and tell him I’m not interested in whatever weird things he’s into these days!”

The recruiter smirked. “It’s nothing as easy as that, Caroline. I’m giving you another chance. I would say yes, if I were you. Unless you want to see your entire planet go up in flames.”

“What?” Caroline paused in her resistance, meeting the eyes of the hybrid. “This isn’t funny…” she faltered.

“This isn’t a game. The CDC is more than anything here in Mystic Falls, and by joining you’ll have the chance to keep your planet safe from becoming the next marked for demolition.”

“This is crazy… you’re crazy,” She shook her head as she took up her struggles again. The hybrid pressed his arm harder against her throat and Caroline struggled to keep a clear head.

“Is that a risk you really want to take? You’ve got people to think about, Caroline. People like your mother. Tyler. Your friends? Do you really want to gamble with their lives? I’m giving you a chance to save them. All you have to do is say yes.”

“Yes? That’s all you need from me?” She met the recruiter’s eyes with a hard stare, anger burning in her own. She still didn’t understand what was happening, but she was starting to fear that whatever this man was threatening she wouldn’t be able to handle. Her friends and family already had so many threats to their lives. They didn’t need this. They didn’t need another, even if she didn’t understand what the other threat was.

“That’s all I need,” he nodded.

“Fine,” she snapped.

“Yes, Caroline,” he spoke in a singsong voice.

“Yes, okay! Yes. I agree. Now get-” She stumbled forward as the man crushing her windpipe vanished.

“... off.” She stood in the empty street, staring at the darkness. Quietly wondering what new hit she just took tonight to add to her list.

CHARACTER ITEMS.
Pick a Team:
GREEN TEAM is the best team for Caroline in terms of personality. Her combat training isn’t the best, but she is able to hold her own in a fight. She’s resourceful as well, and her vampirism makes her capable of taking out larger targets than herself. Green team suits her most, though, due to her compassion. She wants to help her friends and would do anything for them, including protecting them. She would be able to cope with Green team most and understand their mission more, making her transition to the CDC more smooth.

RED TEAM would probably be hard for Caroline to do, but not impossible. Caroline is not new to killing, and threats to her friends have had to be eliminated in the past. While she tends to stand up for those who are weak, she also understands the necessity in killing Klaus to protect the ones she loves. Caroline is also good at deception. She’s been known to be bait on several occasions and has effectively tricked people into buying her act ( once this was making Katherine believe she was weak and scared of her, and another was making Klaus believe she might be interested in him ). Caroline has such a sweet face and personality, and she often knows how to use this against other people. Especially those who underestimate her.

Reason for Joining the CDC:
Caroline was manipulated into into saying ‘yes’ to the CDC. Caroline will never be okay with this, and she will say so often and freely. She’s not shy about speaking her mind. However, she will also not rebel and refuse to do missions. Caroline understands what’s at risk, her planet, and she will do anything it takes to keep them safe. She’s done so in canon, and will do so in CDC. Caroline will focus on that more than anything and keep herself busy so as not to focus on the fact that she’s technically a prisoner and doing things she never wanted to do. As she states in canon once, if she thinks about it she will cry, and if she cries she won’t be able to stop. So she won’t think about it, she’ll push on with her usual control freak self, get a grip of the situation, and push through it. Eventually, though, it’ll become easier for her to cope with as she gains more friends in the CDC.
